Automatic pick-and-place screwdriving systems – APP and APPQ series

The Pick & Place automatic screwdriving systems have been developed to address all those applications where air-blowing is technically impossible or inefficient. In this case, the screw is not transported by compressed air, but is mechanically picked up from a defined position and then placed at the screwdriving point.

The Pick & Place range consists of two series:

  • The APP series enables precise management of all stages of screw gripping, transfer and positioning, ensuring total control even under critical operating conditions. The APP-I configurations are designed for screws with an internal drive, whilst the APP-O series is optimised for screws with external drive.
  • The APP-Q series is ideal for even more dynamic applications and introduces the quick-change function. This system allows the screwdriving head to be replaced quickly and easily on production lines with frequent format changes or where multiple product variants are handled.

The system always operates in conjunction with a feeding unit, which is responsible for selecting, orienting, and feeding the screws continuously.

  • Feeder series FBH, based on vibration;
  • “Step” feeder FLH series, which uses a “step” motion instead of continuous vibration.

The systems for automatic screwdriving Pick & Place are designed for applications in which air-blowing systems are not available possible, they ensure maximum operational flexibility in confined spaces.

The operation of Pick&Place systems is based on a controlled sequence of operations. The screw is first positioned in a specific location, then picked up by the module, transferred and finally placed at the fastening point, where it is tightened.

Compared to blow-moulding systems, the process is slightly slower, but offers a level of flexibility significantly greater. It is possible to handle screws with geometries of a complex nature, work in the presence of interference or accessing points for screwing that are difficult, such as recessed mounting points or areas with limited space.

This technology also allows for very precise control over screw positioning, reducing the risk of errors and improving the overall quality of the process.

In summary, whilst blow moulding is the optimal solution for high-speed standard production runs, pick-and-place becomes the obvious choice when geometric complexities, space constraints or flexibility requirements come into play.

Every application is different. And precisely for this reason there are no “standard” when we talk about automatic screwdriving.

Screw type, available space, accessibility, required productivity: every module, feeder and accessory is combined to create a truly effective solution.
